November 24 (Renewables Now) - US utility Dominion Energy Inc (NYSE:D) will buy the output from a 75-MW solar park that solar and energy storage developer Savion LLC will build in Virginia.
The companies have signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) for the so-called Wythe County solar project. The contract is subject to approval from the Virginia State Corporation Commission, Dominion Energy said on Monday.
The photovoltaic (PV) park will be installed in Whyte County, Southwest Virginia, with construction slated to begin in the middle of next year. The plant will be brought live by the end of 2022. The overall investment required for the project stands at around USD 133 million (EUR 112m).
Dominion Energy has set a goal for achieving net-zero carbon dioxide and methane emissions by 2050. “Dominion Energy is committed to a cleaner energy future for our customers and the Commonwealth and solar generation is a major part of our strategy,” said Emil Avram, vice president of business development.
Savion is a portfolio company of Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG).
