Staff with the Douglas County Public Works Department plans to begin work on the annual chip seal program on roadways in the county very soon.
A release said work is scheduled to continue throughout the summer on various roads. Chip seal work is typically performed weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. depending on weather and availability. Traffic in the work areas will be controlled by flaggers during active work hours.
The release said the program involves the application of a special protective surface to existing pavement. Motorists are asked to watch out for posted construction signs, speed reduction warnings and flaggers in these areas during the summer:
*Melrose area, west of Roseburg
*Nonpareil Road, east of Sutherlin
*North Bank Road, East between Wilbur and Glide
*Upper Cow Creek area, East between Canyonville and Azalea
