As banks, factories and major corporations continue shifting to solar power, smaller businesses like bakeries and liquor stores are also basking in the sunlight.
And now Wagon Circle RV Park in Heber Springs has announced that it is Arkansas' first solar powered recreational vehicle park, home to a 420-panel solar array. The 168-kilowatt system, built by Seal Solar of North Little Rock, is already providing power for the business and its campers, and officials said Wagon Circle expects it to offset 100% of its electricity load. Savings are expected to total $25,000 a year.
“We see solar as an investment and know it will save us money,” Wagon Circle RV Park said in a company statement. “We loved working with Seal Solar, everyone has been helpful and made sure we understood the process from start to finish.”
J.D. Poole, Seal Solar commercial consultant, said the North Little Rock development company “is passionate about helping small business owners save money and increase revenue by going solar.” He called the systems “an alternative to traditional energy generation allowing businesses to control a line item they previously could not – electricity.
The project took advantage of the current 26% federal solar tax credit, accelerated depreciation, and a U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Energy for America Program grant. With all those factors computed, the project has an estimated five-year payback point.
