TORRANCE, Calif., July 24, 2021 – Torrance Memorial Medical Center has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Hospital/Home Care/Hospice Accreditation by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards. The Gold Seal is a symbol of quality that reflects a health care organization’s commitment to providing safe and quality patient care. The Joint Commission has granted Torrance Memorial an accreditation decision of Accredited with an effective date of July 24, 2021. Accreditation is valid for three years
Torrance Memorial underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite survey July 20-23 for assessing compliance with the Medicare conditions for hospitals through The Joint Commission’s Deemed Status Survey Process. During the visit, a team of Joint Commission surveyors evaluated compliance with hospital/home care/hospice standards spanning several areas including emergency management, environment of care, infection prevention and control, leadership, medication management, human resources, medical staff, and rights and responsibilities of the individual. The surveyors also conducted onsite observations and interviews.
The Joint Commission’s standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. They are informed by scientific literature and expert consensus to help health care organizations measure, assess and improve performance.
