A man died after the car he was driving crashed into a tree while speeding on a major road in Seal Beach on Saturday morning, Nov. 6, authorities said.
Seal Beach officers were in the area of Seal Beach and Westminster boulevards when they saw the car speeding northbound toward the intersection about 1:23 a.m., police Lt. Nick Nicholas said.
They then saw the driver lose control of the car and hit a tree in the center median, Nicholas said.
Heading northbound, the road curves right, then left before reaching the intersection.
Officers and Orange County paramedics provided help to the driver, but he died, Nicholas said.
The man was the sole occupant of the car and no other vehicles or pedestrians were involved, Nicholas said. Officers were not pursuing the car when the crash occurred.
Officers did not yet know whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
