SEAL BEACH >> The U.S. Coast Guard has ended its search for a fishing boat crewman, who went missing from a vessel early Saturday morning, July 24.
After combing more than 43 square miles off the coast of Sunset Beach and Seal Beach for over five hours for the 35-year-old seaman, the Coast Guard suspended its search at 8 p.m. Saturday night, Coast Guard Petty Officer Richard Brahm said.
The man had been last seen aboard the Sea Queen II, a 100-foot-long fishing vessel, at about 2 a.m. and was reported missing at 2 p.m. officials said.
The boat is a “huge commercial ship” manned by a crew from the Philippines, Brahm said. The Coast Guard was investigating if and how the missing man may have gone overboard.
Coast Guard officials conducted a preliminary safety inspection of the Sea Queen II after its crewmember went unaccounted for, Brahm said. It was outfitted with appropriate safety equipment, and did not immediately appear to be in violation of any regulations.
