The city’s contractor will conduct chip seal and fog seal operations in various neighborhoods July 7-9.
Motorists are asked to observe the “No Parking” signs, which will be set out 48 hours in advance of the work. All vehicles will need to be moved from the street by 7 a.m. the day the work will begin. All traffic operations will consist of one-way operations where the contractor will work half the road at a time with traffic flowing on the opposite side using flaggers to control flow and direction. Slow down in the work zone.
What is Chip Seal?
- Chip seals enhance safety by providing good skid resistance. Chip seals provide an effective moisture barrier for the underlying pavement against water intrusion by sealing the pavement. Chip seals prevent deterioration of the asphalt surface from the effects of aging and oxidation due to water and sun.
Will Chip Seal get on my tires or my shoes?
- No, as soon as the chip seal has been applied, the surface is safe to drive on.
No Parking Signs have been put up but, I do not see any work. What is going on?
- Occasionally weather delays can happen, equipment problems or other unavoidable delays may occur which could cause the delays. Please be patient.
Areas affected with this project include the Dawson Ranch area; North Fifth from Main to Hazel; Logan from Park to the city limits; and South Fourth Street from the viaduct to Ellsworth.
