The Nvidia Shield TV Streaming Box is some of the best out there, but it could be starting to change thanks to the new Android TV update. Shield users seem to see more ads on their home screen. Some of them autoplay video and audio without a way to skip.

Following recent updates to the Nvidia Shield operating system being deployed, users have found it annoying to see ads on the streamer’s home screen. Without many warnings, the video preview of the show (on a service you don’t own) will start playing and you’ll see the trailer footage on your TV screen.

Such previews aren’t new to streaming services, but they usually appear as recommendations for services you already own and can be easily skipped. These more invasive ads are already frustrating many users, but is there anything I can do to reduce ads with Nvidia Shield?

Can Nvidia Shield disable Android TV ads?

Unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be a way to permanently disable ads on Android TV. Also, I don’t think Google will add an option to do this immediately (at least at no cost). However, if you know what to do, you can work around the problem.

Some users have discovered that they can turn off switching between audio and video previews by going to the Nvidia Shield settings. That is, the ad reverts to a more traditional banner image.

Others have found that ads only play when you scroll through them on your home screen. By avoiding the home screen and quickly navigating to the desired app, you can enjoy your favorite shows without much hassle. However, it is a hassle to move.

We have to wait for how Google and Nvidia will respond to the criticism, but don’t hold our breath for some major fixes. However, if there are any changes, be sure to keep them up to date.
