ELKINS — Seven Elkins High School students earned the Seal of Biliteracy through their study of Spanish. The Seal of Biliteracy is a nationally recognized award presented to high school students who demonstrate a proficiency in English and at least one other language.
These EHS students are able to effectively communicate in the areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking in Spanish as well as in English.
This is the first year West Virginia has offered this prestigious award; it was first awarded in California in 2011 and can now be earned in over 40 states. The West Virginia Department of Education coordinates the application process and will recognize these students. The Seal of Biliteracy will appear on the students’ official transcripts.
