Destiny 2 Beagle Error on PS5: How to Fix and Avoid It - GameRant

Destiny 2 players on PlayStation 5 are finding that Beagle error codes are popping up more and more often. It’s a bug that basically renders the game unplayable on the platform, and the only solution to fixing the problem is hardly an ideal one.

Players that encounter the Destiny 2 Beagle error typically are trying to matchmake in one of the game’s many activities (Strikes, Gambit, Crucible, etc.). It will initially seem like they are being disconnected from matchmaking, but instead, the game will deliver a Beagle error code, or in some instances, the game will crash. The PlayStation 5 will then present a crash report option where the player can send some additional data to the devs and Sony about what happened at the time of the crash.

Unlike a normal Destiny 2 crash, however, this one isn’t just a small annoyance. Once players log back into Destiny 2 the game will attempt to verify the install, but it will eventually fail.

How to Fix Beagle Error Code on Destiny 2

Destiny 2 players that encounter the Beagle error on PlayStation 5 are presented with one option to fix the issue. They need to delete the Destiny 2 file from their PlayStation 5 SSD and reinstall it. Given the Destiny 2 file size, this is hardly an ideal fix but unfortunately, it is the only way to proceed once the Beagle error triggers.

With Internet bandwidth speeds and data caps being what they are, many players are unlikely to be happy with the idea of reinstalling the full Destiny 2 file. The good news is that Bungie has a temporary solution that can potentially prevent the Beagle errors from happening again. It also requires a little extra hardware, though, so it isn’t going to be for everyone.

In order to prevent the Beagle error on PlayStation 5, Bungie recommends that players move the Destiny 2 game file off of their console and onto an SSD. Then, after the file has been copied onto an SSD, move it back onto the console’s internal SSD.

Of course, the PS5 will not run the game from an external SSD because no external drives offer the same read/write speeds that the console’s proprietary drive does. That may eventually change, like the external SSD that Seagate and Xbox offer for the Xbox Series X, but right now an external drive is only for storing PS5 games and saves and not running them.

If moving the file doesn’t protect players from the Destiny 2 Beagle error, their only other course of action is to wait for a fix from Bungie. The developer has acknowledged that there has been an increase in Beagle error codes for PS5 players since the release of Hotfix 3.2.0.1 on May 18th, but that is all the news right now. Being at risk of a full install for close to a month is hardly ideal, so hopefully Bungie issues a Destiny 2 fix soon.
