Chicago White Sox 3, Detroit Tigers 0: White Sox Seal Series Win - South Side Sox

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

What a game!

The Chicago White Sox took the finale of this four-game set, 3-0, to win the series, and we saw an outstanding performance from Dylan Cease and some great plays as well.

With the win today and Cleveland getting crushed by the Baltimore Orioles, the White Sox now have a four-game lead in the division and a 36-23 record overall. Let’s see how the team got to their win today.

Dylan Cease started off with a solid first inning, although he did allow a one-out double to Jonathan Schoop, who has been having a great series. Luckily, Cease was able to get out of the inning without any damage.

José Urena also had a clean first inning, except for a two-out walk to Yoán Moncada. Eric Haase led off the second inning for the Tigers with a double, but Cease was able to get out of the inning scoreless yet again.

The Sox offense broke out in the bottom of the second inning after a triple by Adam Eaton on a failed sliding catch attempt by Akil Baddoo in left field. With one out and a man on third, Andrew Vaughn had a line-drive single to left to make it 1-0.

With two outs, Nick Madrigal doubled to put runners on second and third. Tim Anderson added to the lead with a single to drive in both runners, making it 3-0. Tim has been great with runners in scoring position lately, and his clutch insurance runs set the tone for the game early on.

After a single by Baddoo in the top of the third and an error on a stolen base allowing him to advance to third, Cease was able to get out of the jam yet again without the Tigers scoring a run.

Urena had a quick third inning, only allowing a walk to Yermín Mercedes, who by the way, has “Yermínator” carved into his head now. Always keeping it interesting, Yermín.

Adam Engel, welcome back! Already making a difference on the defense in his fifth inning back in action, Engel had a tremendous defensive catch in center field to take away a home run from Niko Goodrum, and it was a beauty.

Cease got into a bit of a jam in the top of the sixth inning with Jeimer Candelario and Miguel Cabrera hitting back-to-back singles with one out, but Cease was able to record his eighth and ninth strikeouts to Eric Haase and Nomar Mazara to get out of the inning yet again.

Righty Jason Foley came in the bottom of the sixth inning for Urena, who went five innings with six hits, three runs, two walks, and just one strikeout. His ERA now sits at a 4.25 after this appearance.

Cease kept the pitches rolling through the seventh, recording another 1-2-3 inning, which would be his last inning. Cease had a great game, going seven innings with five hits, no runs, and 10 strikeouts.

Aaron Bummer came in to relieve him in the eighth, recording a ground out and two strikeouts. Liam Hendriks came in to save the ninth inning with a three-run lead, and did just so, recording a ground out and two strikeouts to end the game.

This win was historic for manager Tony La Russa, as he surpassed John McGraw and now moves into second place on the all-time wins list with his 2,764th win as manager.

Overall, it was a really solid game overall, and great day for a win. The team has won 10 games of their last 14, and 14 of their last 16 against the Tigers.

The White Sox will have an off-day tomorrow to rest up for their series against the Toronto Blue Jays starting on Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. CT. Carlos Rodón will be on the mound against lefty Robbie Ray.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend and day off tomorrow, and get ready for an exciting series starting Tuesday!
