Android 12 beta is bricking OnePlus and Xiaomi smartphones, avoid it for now - India Today

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

Google announced Android 12 on Tuesday night and the beta version of the software is now available for some Pixel and partner smartphones. The latter include smartphones from Asus, OnePlus, Xiaomi and other smartphone makers. However, you should wait before installing the update on these phones or, should at least take a backup before making the move. Several users have taken to social media platforms complaining that the Android 12 beta version is bricking Android smartphones a problem more commonly spotted on OnePlus and Xiaomi smartphones.

Android 12 beta is available for OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. It can also be downloaded on Mi 11, Mi 11X, Mi 11X Pro and Mi 11 Ultra. Each brand has posted a step-by-step guide on how their users can install the brand-new Android 12 public beta on the eligible device. Soon after Google’s announcement, several users started downloading the update but, their phones were bricked. Basically, they are now good for thing.

In fact, OnePlus has also decided to temporarily remove the Android 12 beta download links, citing user feedback. OnePlus staff member on its forum said that he has, “temporarily removed the download links based on the feedback from users in this thread. I’m sharing the feedback with the software team so they can look into it in the morning at HQ.”

The forum didn’t mention the exact feedback received by the users but, it is likely to be the bricking issue, as spotted by the users.

The reports are comparatively less for Xiaomi smartphones. However, few users have complained that their Mi 11 series phone have either bricked or blocked as they tried to upgrade to Android 12 beta. This was spotted on the Mi 11 which isn't available in the country. India Today Tech also tried to install Android 12 beta on Mi 11X Pro but, the attempt was unsuccessful. Thankfully, the phone is working fine.

On the other hand, there are few users who have been successfully able to migrate to Android 12 on both OnePlus and Xiaomi smartphones. A report by Android Police explains that the devices are failing to go past the setup process if users forgot to unlock bootloader before installing the beta. The issue can reportedly be fixed with an EDL restore. This will “restore your phone with a factory image using a Qualcomm chipset-level flash.”

However, we will advise you to be patient and wait for a stable version of Android 12 before making the move. In case you have already tried or been able to install Android 12 beta on your smartphone, please let us know about your experience.
