What to do when you see a seal - The Outer Banks Voice

Over the next several months, you may encounter seals on Cape Hatteras National Seashore beaches. Seals, like the harbor seal in the photo, typically haul out on beaches to rest after a period of feeding in the ocean. To help protect yourself and the seal, please be a responsible observer by adhering to the seal watching guidelines in the photo below. Remember, seals are protected by the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA). It is against the law to touch, feed, or otherwise harass seals.
