Nine people have been named to serve on a task force that will study the Williamson County Seal, which depicts a symbol of a Confederate flag.

The appointments follow the Williamson County Board of Commissioner's vote on July 13 to approve the task force, which elicited a three-and-a-half hour conversation before the final vote.

From the meeting: Task force approved to study Confederate flag on Williamson County seal

The Williamson County's mayor's office released the list on Tuesday afternoon. It will be composed of the following members:

  • Matt Largen, Chairman (representing the Williamson Chamber)
  • Hewitt Sawyers (representing a multi-generation family member)
  • Emily Bowman (representing a multi-generation family member)
  • Paula Harris (representing the Heritage Foundation)
  • Inetta Gaines (representing the African-American Heritage Society)
  • Lisa Campbell (representing an African-American business owner/manager/education)
  • Dr. Chris Williamson (representing an African-American religious/community leader)
  • Ellie Westman-Chin (representing the W.C. Convention and Visitors’ Bureau)
  • Rick Warwick, the County’s Historian.

Members of the task force will meet over the next several weeks to formulate a recommendation to the county commission. The commissioners will consider the recommendation at their monthly meeting on Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.

The task force was formed after citizens requested that the commission consider seeking state approval for a change to the top left quadrant of the current Williamson County seal, which contains a Confederate battle flag draped over a cannon.

Members of the public that wish to submit input are encouraged to do so onlineat https://ift.tt/3jwfDgO.

Submissions will remain open until 11:59 pm on Aug.14.
