Heidi Klum & Seal Co-Parenting Struggles | Moms.com - Moms

Heidi Klum and Seal seemed to be the best couple back in 2005. She was literally "Kissed By A Rose" when she married Seal in May of that year. But things were not as perfect as the media showed us. After their divorce, Heidi revealed that not only was their marriage a struggle but, apparently, so was co-parenting.

Speaking to Red Magazine, German model Heidi Klum admitted that she is struggling to co-parent with her ex-husband and famous British musician Seal. The pair that shares three kids – sons Henry,14, and Johan, 13, and daughter Lou, 10, and Klum’s daughter from her previous relationship, Helene, 15 –parted ways in 2012 after seven years of matrimony, and finalized their divorce in October 2014.

According to Life and Style Magazine, during their marriage, Heidi had become concerned about Seal’s volcanic temper which terrified her and the kids. Klum worried about the effect of Seal’s inability to control his temper was having on their kids. Tatjana Patitz, a model of German descent, whom Seal dated after his divorce with Klum echoed Seal’s temper issues. Patitz also parted with the "Kiss from a Rose" singer because of his short-temper and explained that the kids were better off being away from Seal's angry outbursts.

In an interview with Yahoo Lifestyle, Seal opened up about his struggle with various health complications all through his life, both physical and mental. The singer has been battling lupus for years, a chronic illness that resulted in the lesions and scars on his face. On top of that, Seal suffered panic attacks and struggled with anxiety for three decades.

However, it is unclear whether Seal’s experiences with battling the illness and anxiety contributed to his emotional volatility. Nonetheless, according to Seal, he and Heidi had grown apart and did not divorce only because of issues related to his short fuse. After the split, parental roles did not change much for Heidi who was already playing the roles of both ‘mom’ and ‘dad.’

In a talk with Rebook’s November issue back in 2015, Heidi explained that Seal was not the typical father who would leave for work in the morning and be back before dinnertime. Seal’s music career demanded a lot of travel and the kids knew being away was part of daddy’s job. As a result, Heidi found herself being a mother and a father at the same time.

When settling their divorce back in 2014, Heidi and Seal worked out a private custody contract for their kids. Initially, the two appeared to have a sound co-parenting technique, openly showing affection and showing up for their kids’ soccer matches. Yet, years after the pair moved on from their matrimonial union, Klum admitted that co-parenting was not all rosy-rosy.

Klum revealed that both she and Seal try their best, but...

“It's never really easy, I guess when you break up. There was probably a reason for it and it kind of takes its time but … we're always there for our children and always will be.”

For Heidi, that aspect of co-parenting has been hard, but they have had to come together as a family, and that sometimes everything was akin to hopping on the clouds. Consequently, the America’s Got Talent judge and her ex-spouse try to get along for the sake of their kids.

Last year, Heidi tied the knot with then 29-year-old, Tokio Hotel musician and singer, Tom Kaulitz. Klum praised Kaulitz for being “so cool” with the kids, and she loves that her new husband has a good relationship with her children. Klum is happy that everyone in her life seems to be happy with each other. Moreover, Klum is grateful to have a solid support system in place, especially because of her busy schedule.

When it comes to encouraging good behavior in her kids, the supermodel mother-of-four says respect is at the top of her good-behavior list. With that being said, the kids are not allowed to use bad words in the home as well as outside the home. As life moves on, the most important thing Klum has learned as a mother is “to kind of just roll with it.” This entails being free and learning along the way because there is no one answer to how parenting should be done.

Also, for this Victoria’s Secret model whose name is synonymous with fun, the transitions she's experienced have taught her that life comes with so many choices, and it is all just about picking the right things; that way you will not have to struggle.
