During these uncertain times, it is easy to fall into a hole of negativity. There are so many unknowns, restrictions have been imposed on normal daily rituals, and the fear of the COVID-19 virus and potential death loom.
Yet, for years we have heard about the power of positive thinking and using laughter and happiness as a coping mechanism. Norman Cousins popularized the idea that humor can be healing. Since then, research continues to explore the role of positive and negative thinking. In fact, research published this month links negative thinking with cognitive decline and markers of Alzheimer disease.
