Crews with the Douglas County Public Works Department have begun work on their annual chip seal program on county roadways.

Work will continue through the remainder of the summer. Chip seal work is being performed weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. depending on weather and the availability of materials. The program is the application of a special protective wearing surface on existing pavement. The treatment combines one or more layers of asphalt with one or more layers of fine aggregate.

This week work is taking place on a seven-mile section of Azalea Glen Road in the Glendale area. Work will also be taking place in the Canyonville, Glide, Roseburg, Umpqua, Yoncalla and Oakland areas.

The work will impact drive times. Delays of 20 minutes should be expected where work it taking place. Drivers should seek alternate routes whenever possible.

Contact the Public Works Department at 440-4268 for more information.
