Patriots’ final drive to seal win over Chargers showed incredible maturation - Musket Fire

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

Despite trailing by only one point heading into halftime, the New England Patriots‘ offense was far from putting it all together.

They scored just three points in two drives that got inside the Los Angeles Chargers’ five-yard line. Four total trips inside the Chargers’ 30-yard line after the opening touchdown drive yielded six total points. Penalties erased a number of big plays, specifically Damien Harris runs.

This couldn’t continue if they wanted to steal a victory on the road. The defense was mostly holding up its end of the bargain after 30 minutes. The offense needed to finally get on the same page to put a bow on this one.

Two Adrian Phillips interceptions got the Patriots 10 points. After his pick-six early in the fourth quarter, the defense forced another three-and-out from the Chargers. It was up to Mac Jones and Co. to put this one out of reach. Leading 24-17 with just over nine minutes remaining, the offense ate nearly seven minutes off the clock on a drive that ended with a field goal.

It was near flawless execution from start to finish.

Fourteen plays, 54 yards, six minutes and 56 seconds, three points. The Chargers had no timeouts left when they got the ball back with just over two minutes remaining. They would score a touchdown and attempt an onside kick, but the Patriots recovered and ended the evening.

What made this drive so special, though? Everyone seemingly executed their assignments perfectly AND played heads-up football. Each ball carrier/pass catcher made sure to stay in bounds to keep the clock burning. Jakobi Meyers and Damien Harris did it multiple times, which either ate more time or forced LA to use timeouts.

Jones’ poise under pressure was undeniable, too. He hung in the pocket and delivered multiple spot-on throws to put more pressure on the Chargers and keep the drive alive.

Admittedly, the defense deserves most of the credit here. They forced two turnovers, were responsible for arguably the most important points of the game, and held one of the league’s best offenses in check. That stuff is run of the mill for a typical Bill Belichick-coached team, though.

What was more notable was the offense putting all the mistakes and issues in the rearview to keep the Chargers on the ropes before delivering the final blow. No penalties. No dropped passes. No blown assignments. No ill-advised throws.

That’s a colossal leap for an offense trying to discover its true identity with so many new players following a two-decade reign atop the NFL with Tom Brady leading the charge. Don’t forget this drive as one of the imprints that signaled what’s to come in the Mac Jones era.

Baby seal saved from cars on San Rafael roadway - San Francisco Chronicle

A baby northern fur seal was saved on Saturday from a close brush with being hit by cars on a San Rafael roadway not far from the bay, police said.

The tiny seal, nicknamed “Ivy,” was rescued by police around East Francisco Boulevard and Grange Avenue, near the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, according to a San Rafael police post on Facebook.

Two officers responded to mistaken reports of an otter on the roadway. The rescue was assisted by volunteers from the Marine Mammal Center, where the seal is now under care. It’s unknown how the seal ended up on the roadway.

Northern fur seals are typically found 600 miles off the coast and are a threatened species, police said.

Female seals can grow up to five feet and 140 pounds and male seals can group up to seven feet and 600 pounds, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The seals were historically hunted for their fur but a 1911 international treaty banned hunting at sea and created guidelines for land hunting. The California population of northern fur seals was estimated at 14,050 in 2016. The California seals breed off the Farallon Islands and San Miguel Island.

The seals spend 300 days a year in the ocean.

Stephon Gilmore Makes Late Interception To Help Seal Win In Panthers Debut - CBS Boston

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

FOXBORO (CBS) — It did not take long for Stephon Gilmore to make an impact in Carolina. And next week, he’ll get a chance to do so against his former team.

The 2019 Defensive Player of the Year made his Panthers debut in Week 8, and came down with a late interception that helped seal a much-needed win for Carolina.

Gilmore picked off Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan just after the two-minute warning to help secure an eventual 19-13 win for the Panthers. Ryan dropped back on a first-and-10 at the Carolina 30-yard line, and was hit as he made his throw to rookie tight end Kyle Pitts. He instead found Gilmore, who came down with his first interception since Week 1 of the 2020 season.

Gilmore had two total tackles and a pass defended in his debut, as the Panthers snapped a four-game losing streak on Sunday. The Carolina offense went three-and-out after Gilmore’s pick, so the Panthers defense had to go back out and make another stop to secure Sunday’s win.

Gilmore, a four-time Pro Bowler, started the season on PUP for the Patriots as he worked his way back from a partially torn quad. He was attempting to work out a new contract with the Patriots, but was traded to Carolina on Oct 6.

Up next for Gilmore and the Panthers? That would be a visit from the New England Patriots in Week 9. Asked if he was feeling any added motivation heading into next week’s game, Gilmore made his feelings abundantly clear.

“A lot extra,” the corner responded.

How to Watch 'SEAL Team' on Paramount+ - Decider

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

SEAL Team fans need to be on high alert because their favorite show is on the move! The series, which has had a home on the CBS network since it debuted in 2017, will soon enlist at a new base—and not one that you can find in your cable lineup, either.

So, what’s in store for the David Boreanaz action series? And once you see the cliffhanger in Sunday’s episode, how will you find the conclusion? What’s the future for SEAL Team on CBS and in general? We’ve got answers to all those questions below.

When does SEAL Team air on CBS? What time does SEAL Team come on?

SEAL Team currently airs on CBS on Sunday nights at 10 p.m. ET — but not for much longer. The episode that airs on Sunday, October 31 (s5e4, titled “Need To Know”) will be the final SEAL Team episode to air on CBS.

Is SEAL Team canceled? What channel does SEAL Team come on?

SEAL Team is moving to the streaming service Paramount+ starting on November 1 with the release of a brand new episode (s5e5) titled “Frog on the Tracks.”

Here’s how the move will take place: SEAL Team will air a new episode (“Need to Know”) on CBS on Sunday, October 31 at its usual time. That episode will also stream simultaneously on Paramount+. Then, a new episode of SEAL Team (“Frog on the Tracks”) will premiere on Paramount+ the next day on November 1. The next new episode of SEAL Team (s5e6) will then debut on Paramount+ on Sunday, November 7.

What time will SEAL Team episodes premiere on Paramount+?

Paramount+ adds new episodes of its series at 3 a.m. ET/12 a.m. PT. And aside from the episode dropping on Monday, November 1, Sunday will remain SEAL Team day. That means your Sunday mornings just got a whole lot more SEAL Teamier.

So, to reiterate—!

  • Sunday, October 31: SEAL Team Season 5 Episode 4 airs on CBS
  • Monday, November 1: SEAL Team Season 5 Episode 5 airs on Paramount+
  • Sunday, November 7: SEAL Team Season 5 Episode 6 airs on Paramount+

And new episodes of SEAL Team will continue to be released on Sunday mornings on Paramount+.

Why is SEAL Team moving to Paramount+? Why is SEAL Team leaving CBS?

As reported in May, it was either move to streaming or get canceled. The show, along with Evil, were both close to getting the axe until CBS Studios reached a deal with Paramount+ to renew both of those shows as streaming exclusives. Evil already returned as a Paramount+ series earlier this year, and now it’s SEAL Team’s turn. The reason this deal was struck, though, is because SEAL Team was one of the most-watched shows on Paramount+ prior to the deal. With this deal in place, the hope is that SEAL Team will stick around as a streaming exclusive for a good long while.

SEAL Team makes the jump to Paramount+ with the release of a new episode on Monday, November 1.

David Boreanaz Pens Sweet Message As SEAL Team Prepares To Leave CBS For Streaming - CinemaBlend

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

David Boreanaz has spent the better part of two decades on network TV, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel on The WB in the late ‘90s to early 2000s, to Bones immediately after for 12 seasons on Fox. More recently, he's been portraying Master Chief Jason Hayes on CBS' military drama, SEAL Team, since 2017 but, now, he’s moving to a new television home. The series is preparing to make the jump from CBS to Paramount+ to become a streaming exclusive, and the actor got emotional about it in a recent message.

Following a string of campaigns to keep the show going, it was announced earlier this year that SEAL Team would be moving to CBS’ sister streaming service. This shift comes after a short stint on the network for the beginning of Season 5. The series will kick off the move with a two-parter that will start on CBS and end on Paramount+. Given his history, it's understandable that David Boreanaz would be somewhat overcome due to this recent development. And he penned a sweet message to fans on Instagram ahead of his departure from network TV:

Its been a ride on Network TV for over 20 years, this Sunday marks my last episode on a Network for SEAL TEAM. Thank you to CBS for all your support and love for our show. I look forward to the streaming format and all that it has to offer for our great show! Tune in for a great goodbye and even better New Beginning! TEAMS

The first four episodes of the fifth season have been airing on CBS. The special two-parter will see the Bravo Team spin up to Africa following a mass casualty terrorist attack. After the West Coast airing, both episodes will be made available on the streaming service. The series has done well for itself on network TV but, of course, streaming is a whole different ballgame.

David Boreanaz has spoken out about his excitement regarding the streaming move. He previously noted that the creative team will be able to tell more authentic stories of the brave men and women who are fighting for our country, without network constraints. This also means he can also drop a swear word here and there and not have it censored.

Still, fans shouldn’t expect the show to change too much from what they’re accustomed to. A weekly trip to Paramount+ will be a little hard to get used to, but it's just great that the show has a new home that seems to have its best interests in mind.

Following the show’s final stint on CBS on Halloween night, new episodes of SEAL Team will drop weekly on Paramount+ on Sundays. And while you're checking out those new episodes, be sure to take a look at our fall 2021 TV schedule for info on other shows premiering and returning this year.

Tynemouth rescued seals Rosie and Boromir released into wild - BBC News

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com
Seals return to water
Tynemouth Seal Hospital

Two injured seals rescued from the North Sea coast have been returned to the wild.

The mammals, named Rosie and Boromir by volunteers, were cared for by Tynemouth Seal Hospital after they were found hurt as pups in the summer.

Both are common seals, also known as harbour seals, although despite their name the grey seal is more prevalent.

The pair made their way back into the water close to St Mary's Lighthouse in Whitley Bay on Saturday morning.

One seal was released by a schoolboy who had raised more than £1,000 for the hospital in September.

The pair were kept away from visitors at the hospital - based at Tynemouth Aquarium - to avoid getting used to human contact.

Boromir was admitted weighing 11.4kg (25.1lb) after being rescued from Bridlington, North Yorkshire, and was treated for a mouth disease.

His release weight was 32.5kg (78.2lb), with volunteers declaring he now "has a nice belly on him".

Rosie was rescued in Redcar in July weighing 10.2kg (22.4lb) and was released tipping the scales at 30kg (66.1lb).

Volunteer Sarah Parry said: "We suffered quite a few losses of common seals because of this disease but because of working with our vets we have had quite a few successes during this year and lots of releases.

"Common seals are more solitary than greys. It's possible they may spend some time together as young ones as they find their way."

The hospital has cared for more than 100 seals since it was established in 2017.

Soler, Swanson seal deal for Braves in G4 - MLB.com

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

ATLANTA -- Exactly three months from the day they summoned in those frantic final moments before the Trade Deadline, the Braves summoned the power-hitting outfielder to pinch-hit in a tied Game 4 of the World Series on Saturday night. What followed was a magnificent missile, a smoked line drive that sent Astros left fielder crashing violently into the wall and the Truist Park crowd into hysterics.

Soler’s seventh-inning solo shot off immediately followed the same from , and those back-to-back blasts are how the Braves not only put together the first lead change of this Fall Classic, but also put themselves on the cusp of their first World Series title since 1995. With a 3-2 victory that required late-inning lumber and six pitchers, the Braves took a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven Series to give themselves a chance to clinch at what is sure to be a charged Battery on Sunday night.

“At the beginning of the year, I wasn't part of this team,” Soler said through an interpreter. “The organization traded for me. Obviously, I'm grateful to be here. It truly means a lot to be able to be here with this group of guys.”

That group of guys is the 47th team to take a 3-1 lead in a best-of-seven World Series -- an advantage that 40 of the previous 46 (87%) turned into a title.

In a stunning span of just five pitches, the Braves turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead. First, Swanson swatted Javier’s 95.1 mph four-seamer over the heart of the plate into the right-field seats in front of the Chop House. Then, Soler, whose in-season arrival made him one of the four acquired outfielders who rescued the Braves in the wake of 's awful season-ending knee injury, punched a misplaced 80.6 mph slider to left.

What it lacked in height, the 107 mph blast off Soler’s bat made up for in speed and significance. It barely cleared the 6-foot wall that guards the Astros’ bullpen, and Alvarez, a primary designated hitter in a ballpark that -- for now, anyway -- does not allow one, was unable to get a glove on it.

Alvarez hit the wall, and Soler floated around the basepaths with the latest, biggest hit of the Braves’ season.

Swanson and Soler were, according to the Elias Sports Bureau, the first Nos. 8 and 9 hitters to hit back-to-back homers in the World Series.

Their timing was impeccable.

Prior to that point, the Astros had been winning/surviving a pitchers’ duel, untraditional though it may have been. Houston had taken an early lead with the help of a short and shaky outing from , a 27-year-old Braves rookie making his first career start. The Astros had gotten some vintage effectiveness from potential Hall of Famer , who had seemingly been running on fumes. And 's 23rd career postseason home run -- a solo shot off in the fourth -- had put them in good position to even the Series at two wins apiece.

With these two clubs comparably compromised -- the Astros with the in-October elbow trouble of , and the Braves with the fractured right fibula suffered in Game 1 -- Game 4 was destined to be bullpen-oriented. That’s how we wound up in a situation in which a reliever was warming just three pitches into a World Series game.

Lee’s assignment had been a surprising one. He was released by the Marlins in March and made his big league debut for the Braves on Oct. 1. And though he didn’t allow a ball out of the infield, he did show some jitters in walking and Alvarez to load the bases after Altuve’s leadoff single to short.

So one night after pulling his starter five innings into a no-hitter, Braves manager Brian Snitker pulled Lee one out into a one-hitter. Wright was summoned into a stressful situation with the Astros in the heart of their order. While was able to make it a 1-0 game by grounding out to third and scoring Altuve, that fielder’s-choice RBI was all the Astros could muster.

Wright struck out to escape the inning with minimal damage, and he went on to give the Braves 4 2/3 innings in which his only big mistake was Altuve’s homer, which went a Statcast-projected 434 feet to dead center. (The Truist Park organist who had teased the 5-foot-6 Altuve with “It’s a Small World” seconds earlier didn’t fare very well in that at-bat, either.)

That gave Houston a 2-0 lead.

Greinke’s performance, meanwhile, was all guts, grunts and guile. It was only four scoreless innings, but, in the context of a postseason that has largely revolved around relievers and Greinke’s very limited role of late, it was everything the Astros could have possibly hoped for.

“We were going to take him as far as he could, and we took him to that point,” Astros manager Dusty Baker said. “He was dealing, and he threw up some key double plays. He was vintage Greinke.”

While Greinke’s 90.2 mph four-seam average was above his season average (88.9), it obviously wasn’t lighting up the radar gun. But he induced whiffs on 40% of all swings against him and limited hard contact. And he made the early runs scored by the Astros stand up.

The Braves, though, chipped away in the sixth. Baker turned to trade acquisition after pitched himself into a two-on, one-out jam. Maton struck out on some high cheese, but continued his star-building October with a sharp RBI single to left. Alvarez’s debatable decision to throw home on the play allowed the Braves to get runners at second and third with two outs. But after intentionally walking to load the bases, Maton struck out to preserve the 2-1 edge.

Alas, it didn’t last in that game-changing seventh.

With those seismic seventh-inning swats from Swanson and Soler, the Braves, who got perfect innings from and in the eighth and ninth, perpetuated their reputation for perseverance and put themselves on the precipice.

CBS is Going to Stop Airing 'SEAL Team' — Here's Where You Can Watch It Now - Newsweek

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

SEAL Team is back and bigger than ever with a brand new season and a brand new home.

Instead of releasing all of Season 5 on CBS, the military drama is moving exclusively to a U.S. streaming service.

Newsweek has everything you need to know about where you can watch SEAL Team Season 5.

Where to Watch SEAL Team Season 5

SEAL Team will soon be saying goodbye to CBS and hello to streaming service Paramount+.

The military drama will no longer be available via CBS, with the brand new season airing only on the Paramount+ streaming platform from Sunday, October 31 onwards.

The first four episodes aired on CBS, with the fourth installment airing on Sunday, October 31 at 10pm E.T. marking the show's end to its run on CBS.

Episode 5 will be available to watch via Paramount+ after Episode 4 has concluded on CBS on Sunday, marking the show's official move.

Episodes of SEAL Team Season 5 will continue air weekly on the platform, dropping every Sunday.

To watch SEAL Team, you can subscribe to Paramount+ for $5 per month. The Premium subscription starts at $10 per month and includes access to live networks and is ad-free.

The news SEAL Team was moving to Paramount+ was announced in May 2021, coinciding with the Season 5 renewal.

The move may not come as a huge surprise to some, as CBS and Paramount are owned by ViacomCBS. Originally Paramount+ was to be named CBS All Access, however that changed in March 2021.

Paramount+ hosts a range of CBS content alongside Yellowstone, iCarly, and Why Women Kill.

Speaking to TV Line about the show's move, showrunner Spencer Hudnut teased setting up camp on Paramount+ will see Bravo Team embark on a mission unlike "any they've done before."

He said: "Not only are they going off on a mission unlike any they've done before, but a mission that will also include some personal elements that will impact each and every operator. We're going to go out with a bang for sure — and then start [on Paramount+] with an even bigger bang."

In Episodes 4 and 5, marking the show's departure from CBS and arrival on Paramount+, the Bravo Team are sent to Africa in response to a mass casualty terrorist attack.

Star David Boreanaz added he was looking forward to telling "deeper and darker" stories via SEAL Team's move to Paramount+.

He said: "We will premiere on premiere week for [the first] four episodes. The biggest difference is that obviously in the streaming world, there are no commercials, so we could tell our stories a lot better, I think. That's not to say we are not doing a good job of doing that now.

"I don't want to say that it's going to be completely different, but we're going to be able to go a little bit deeper and darker and lighter in a lot of areas. You have the ability to be a little bit more creative and you definitely have more screen time. We're looking at probably 18 more minutes of showtime there."

SEAL Team Season 5 Episode 4 airs Sunday, October 31 on Paramount+.

SEAL Team Episode 5 premieres on Paramount+ on Sunday, October 31 with episodes dropping every Sunday.

Billionaire Tax Proposal Sets Ultra-Rich on the Hunt for Ways to Avoid It - Bloomberg

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

Democrats’ proposal for a tax on billionaires is already spurring questions about how the sweeping new levy would be implemented and how America’s wealthiest -- and their sophisticated advisers -- can get around it.

The plan attempts to zero in on a narrow slice of the super-rich -- those with at least $1 billion in assets or incomes of $100 million for three consecutive years. Anyone in that category would be forced to pay an annual tax on any unrealized gains on publicly traded assets like stocks. For private assets, which are far more difficult to value, the Internal Revenue Service would take a more hands-off approach, requiring billionaires pay an extra tax when the holdings are sold.

Legislative committee gives seal of approval to changes for 'big five' licenses - The Sheridan Press

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

SHERIDAN — Months of hard work from the Wyoming Wildlife Taskforce may be paying off.

During its Monday meeting in Cheyenne, the Wyoming Legislature’s Travel, Recreation, Wildlife and Cultural Resources Committee granted initial approval to the task force’s draft bill, which rethinks the allocation of hunting licenses for the “big five” game animals in Wyoming — moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goat, bison and grizzly bears.

The task force’s big five suggestions aim to increase local hunting opportunities for some of Wyoming’s rarest and most coveted animals, according to Brian Nesvik, director of the Wyoming Game and Fish Department and member of the task force.

The task force’s approach is twofold, Nesvik said. The first is to limit big five hunting licenses to once-in-a-lifetime events: Once you receive a license for one of these animals, you are unable to apply again.

Currently, hunters who receive a big five license have to wait five years before applying for another one, Nesvik said. That five-year waiting period will still apply for those wishing to hunt cow/calf moose and bison and ewe/lamb bighorn sheep, while all other big five animals will conform with the new once-in-a-lifetime rule.

The second prong of the plan is to institute a 90-10 split for big five licenses, with local hunters receiving 90% of the licenses and out-of-state hunters receiving 10%.

Nesvik said the current splits vary per animal. Bighorn sheep, mountain goats and bison have 75-25 splits while moose are split 80-20. Grizzly bear licenses are currently set at 90-10 and would not change if the legislation moves forward.

The change would have a small but noticeable effect on the number of big five licenses available to Wyoming residents, according to task force co-chair Josh Coursey. For example, 180 bighorn sheep tags were available in the state last year with 135 going to local hunters. Under the recommended change, that number would increase to 162.

Similarly, 340 moose tags were available in the state last year with 255 going to local hunters. Under the recommended change, that number would increase to 306. Based on last year’s tag allocation totals, 27 new bison tags and 17 new mountain goat tags would be available to local hunters.

Nesvik said he didn’t expect the changes to have a major impact on local residents’ probability of drawing a tag for the big five animals, due to the already low number of tags available.

“The increased chances of drawing based on this are very small,” Nesvik said. “…But the testimony we’ve heard is that adding even just a few licenses is something.”

Nesvik said he doesn’t expect the decrease in out-of-state license allocations to impact local tourism, due to the already-low number of tags that are allocated to out-of-state residents each year.

Prior to being considered by the legislative committee, the draft bill received unanimous approval from the task force, Nesvik said. While there was limited public comment on the bill during Monday’s committee meeting, the one comment — from the Wyoming Outfitters and Guides Association — was supportive of the legislation.

“We’re here in strong support of the portion of the bill pertaining to the once-in-a-lifetime (license) for the big five,” said Bill Novotny, lobbyist for the association. Novotny said the association had not yet officially adopted a position regarding the 90-10 split but supported the idea “in concept.”

The draft legislation has been one of the key pieces of work of the task force in recent months, according to Nesvik. The Wyoming Wildlife Taskforce, comprising 18 members including hunters, legislators and landowners from across the state, was formed by Gov. Mark Gordon with direction from the Legislature. The task force's charge is to study top-priority wildlife policy issues facing the state related to the allocation of hunting opportunity, sportsperson access and other issues.

With legislation for the big five complete, the taskforce is now turning its attention to an even more contentious and complicated issue: the allocation of tags for more common game animals like elk and deer, Nesvik said.

“We’re going to hear some strong views, and have heard some, for 90-10 on the other species,” Nesvik said. “But we haven’t reached a conclusion on that yet or a recommendation…At the November meeting, we’re going to hear from the Wyoming Office of Tourism on the economic impacts of the change, and we’ll be deliberating it at this next meeting and probably the December meeting. I don’t expect it will be a quick discussion.”

Ten Institutions Earn "Seal of Excelencia" By Proving Latino Student Success Through Data - Diverse: Issues in Higher Education

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

Ten higher education institutions have earned the Seal of Excelencia certification from the national organization Excelencia in Education, dedicated to Latino student success. They join 14 other institutions that have earned the seal since it was created in 2019.

2020 Seal Of Excelencia Web Banner2To earn the certification, Excelencia says an institution must prove, through evidence and data, that its institutional practices serving Latino students are effective; that it has positive Latino student progress; that it's created an environment "where Latino students thrive"; and that its leadership strategies contribute to Latino student success.

“These Seal certified institutions have been able to articulate and demonstrate they are modeling the behavior we need to see to accelerate Latino student success,” said Dr. Deborah Santiago, co-founder and CEO of Excelencia in Education. “They are having measurable impact in changing the face of higher education.”

Santiago added: “These 24 Seal certified institutions are trendsetters. Combined, they enrolled 10% of all Latino college students and graduated 12% of all Latinos in the U.S. That is powerful and says a lot about their intentionality.”

The ten most recent institutions to earn the certification are:

● California State University, Fresno (Fresno State)

● California State University, Fullerton (CSUF)

● Miami Dade College (MDC)

● San Diego State University (SDSU)

● Texas A&M University – San Antonio (TAMUSA)

● University of California, Merced (UCM)

● University of California, Riverside (UCR)

● University of Central Florida (UCF)

● University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV)

● Wilbur Wright College (WWC)

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

A man accused of assault was in police custody Friday following a high-speed pursuit, crash and police shooting in Orange County overnight, officials said.

Around 12:40 a.m., police in Seal Beach were in pursuit of a white Chevrolet Suburban on the westbound lanes of the 22 Freeway. The SUV was driven by a man allegedly involved with the assault of a peace officer.

According to authorities, the suspect allegedly sped off on Westminster Boulevard and at one point, he was reportedly driving the wrong way on the 405 Freeway.

"The vehicle entered SR-22 westbound and was involved in a traffic collision in the area of Valley View Street," the CHP statement said.

The suspect drove away from the scene and ended up outside the Alamitos Animal Hospital in Westminster along Garden Grove Blvd. where he apparently crashed, exited his vehicle, and ran from authorities.

"Officers attempted to take the driver into custody when an officer-involved shooting occurred," the CHP reported. "The vehicle continued off of the freeway where a second traffic collision occurred in the area of Garden Grove Boulevard, west of Goldenwest Street, where the driver was subsequently taken into custody without incident."

Norfolk colony of grey seals welcomes first pups - BBC News

The first grey seal pups of the season have been born to a thriving colony, with wardens helping to keep them safe.

Horsey on the Norfolk coast welcomed an estimated 2,500 young last winter, with a year-on-year increase of about 10%.

The season runs until late January, with roped-off designated viewing areas to keep visitors at a distance.

Friends of Horsey Seals warned that if people get too close to the pups it might "cause the mother to abandon her pup, leaving it to starve".

Chairman Peter Ansell said the season began slowly but by mid-November they "start popping out all over the place" with hundreds of pups on the sand.

The group conducts a seal count, but could not complete it last season due to Covid-19 restrictions, Mr Ansell said.

"When we stopped the count we were at well over 1,500," he said.

"We were unable to go down there and complete the count but going on past history you could safely say there would be about 2,500 born by the end of the season last year, no problem at all.

"We expect probably to exceed that total again this year.

"It seems to go year on year the total increases by about 10%."

He said the majority of the marine mammals on the beach are currently adults, with at least two healthy pups born this week.

"It doesn't really get into its full swing until the second or third week of November, and from then, for the next fortnight it really, really goes to town," said Mr Ansell.

"That's the time we pray we don't get high tides that wash them away, as happened last year when we lost about 50 or 60."

He said volunteer wardens are on duty, with signs and viewing areas marking out a safe distance from the colony.

Mr Ansell said that if people keep to the viewing areas "we can look forward to another happy and successful season".

In September, the group said it was "really stupid" that people were ignoring warning signs and getting too close to pregnant seals, which could cause them to miscarry.

The Most Important Thing Shamier Anderson Learned About Playing A Navy SEAL For Invasion - Exclusive - Looper

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

When we spoke to Anderson prior to the premiere of "Invasion," he spoke about the background work he did to get into the head of his Navy SEAL character. "I actually worked with a consultant by the name of Remi Adeleke, who is an ex-Navy SEAL," he said. "And I worked with him closely on the entire show, heavy in the preparation process and the pre-production, with just understanding the physicality of a Navy SEAL. So, in the gym with him, the psychology of a Navy SEAL, the founding principles of a Navy SEAL, learning to eat the elephant one bite at a time, and just going on a crash course."

So, um ... what was that about eating an elephant? Apparently, rather than a way of staying fed in the field, this is a bit of advice often cited in the military about approaching overwhelming-seeming tasks in digestible increments in the interest of making progress on them. Anderson clarifies, "When I say eating the elephant one bite at a time, it means taking on a task and respecting the magnitude of that task and doing it one step at a time." Apparently, this advice was useful not only for putting Anderson into a military mindset, but also for helping him to tackle what was a difficult shoot on "Invasion."

"That really helped and informed my performance," he said. "And during the shooting period, I also made sure that I tried to stay in that headspace. So, I actually slept in the desert a lot of the time, which was really interesting, just to kind of stay in that isolated state and to really stay present in Trevante's world."

You can see Shamier Anderson's elephant-eating abilities on "Invasion," which is releasing new episodes Fridays on Apple TV+.

Agnellis seal $9 bln PartnerRe reinsurer sale on pre-pandemic terms - Reuters

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com
  • Covea had walked away from purchase due to Covid-19
  • Parties had struck cooperation and investment accords
  • Price tag unchanged, cooperation will continue
  • Exor could invest further in luxury, pay dividend - broker

MILAN, Oct 29 (Reuters) - Exor (EXOR.MI), the holding company of Italy's Agnelli family, has signed a preliminary accord to sell its PartnerRe re-insurer to French insurance group Covea for $9 billion, reviving a deal that had been derailed by the coronavirus pandemic.

The price tag is unchanged from last year, when Covea walked away from the purchase of the Bermuda-based firm saying it could no longer buy it under terms agreed before the COVID-19 outbreak, which Exor refused to change.

Exor had said at the time PartnerRe had one of the highest capital and liquidity ratios in the global reinsurance industry and was not expected to be significantly affected by COVID.

Shares in Exor rose 2.2% in late morning trade on Friday, the top performer on a negative Milan market (.FTMIB), with attention focused on what the Stellantis (STLA.MI)and Ferrari (RACE.MI)investor might do with the additional resources.

Exor and Covea said in a joint statement late on Thursday they planned to sign a final agreement by the end of the year, with the deal slated to complete in mid-2022.

Based on the terms of the disposal, Exor is set to pocket a capital gain of around $3.2 billion from its investment in PartnerRE which it bought in 2016 for $6.7 billion, when including dividends paid by the reinsurer since then.

Milan-based broker Equita calculated the deal lifted Exor's net asset value by 5%, boosting its net financial position to more than 4 billion euros in cash from a debt of 3.1 billion euros.

EXOR'S OPTIONS

Exor, which is also the parent of companies including CNH Industrial (CNHI.MI) and soccer club Juventus (JUVE.MI), has made its first steps into luxury goods and services.

Last year it became the largest shareholder in Chinese luxury group Shang Xia, co-founded by France's Hermes (HRMS.PA), and in March it took a 24% holding in high-end shoemaker Louboutin for 540 million euros.

Equita analyst Martino De Ambroggi said Exor could use proceeds from the deal to further diversify into the luxury sector, also mentioning an extraordinary dividend and a share buyback as possible options.

An investor day on Nov. 30 could shed more light on future plans.

Reuters reported in July the Agnellis' scion John Elkann had looked at a tie up with fashion designer Giorgio Armani as part of a plan to build a luxury business. An Exor spokesperson had denied any approach had been made. read more

Equita put Exor's potential investment capacity at 8 billion to 9 billion euros assuming a loan-to-value ratio of 0.2 times.

After the deal collapsed last year, Covea agreed to invest 1.5 billion euros in entities managed by PartnerRE and in undisclosed investments related to Exor, in a bid to normalise relations between the two companies.

Covea said this had helped it to better know and appreciate PartnerRe and its management.

The cooperation and investment agreements will continue with Exor buying from Covea for $725 million interests in special reinsurance vehicles, while Covea and PartnerRe will invest in Exor-managed funds. ($1 = 0.8560 euros)
