EVERFI Awards Hart District National Empowered Seal - SCVNEWS.com

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

Empowered District

The William S. Hart Union High School District has been awarded the National Empowered Seal for its commitment to whole-child education by EVERFI.

The EVERFI Empowered Seal, awarded to less than 6% of North American school districts, is a designation awarded to K-12 districts and individual schools that have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to whole-child education through the use of EVERFI’s comprehensive, evidence-informed digital programs.

“We are honored to be part of the six percent of districts across the nation to earn the EVERFI Empowered District designation,” said Dave LeBarron, director of Curriculum and Assessment for the Hart School District. “Our teaches are dedicated to addressing both the academic and social needs of their students because they know that it not only impacts how healthy and productive students are now, but also their well-being and success far beyond the high school years.”

EVERFI’s programs inform and empower students on critical issues including financial literacy, social-emotional learning, health and wellness, inclusion, and college and career readiness. Educating the whole child not only impacts how healthy, engaged and productive students are during school but also their well-being and success far beyond their K-12 years.

Hundreds of seal pups killed by storm at nature preserve - New York Post

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

A devastating blow has killed off hundreds of seal babies at a Scottish nature reserve.

Winter Storm Arwen — which battered the United Kingdom and Scotland with strong gusts of over 75mph last week — took the lives of over an estimated 800 seal pups at the National Trust for Scotland St Abb’s Head reserve.

The Trust said that it had never before seen damage on such a scale, the BBC reported

The storm hit at an extremely unfortunate time for the reserve, where it was the “peak of pupping season,” said Ranger Ciaran Hatsell. In its wake, Storm Arwen thus left “a pretty grim scene.”

While the reserve has seen massive seal pup growth over the course of the past decade, the recent damage has likely dealt a lasting blow: While Hatsell said that area pups had recently been counted at over 2,000, he fears that nearly half — or more than 40 percent of them — are now lost.

“The storm that hit was phenomenal and to hit at this time of year is really hard,” he said. “Something on this scale, a single event, I have never seen anything like it.”

Hatsell saw the damage firsthand, in about the goriest way possible.

“To see piles of dead pups in the water — just bodies floating — was really hard to see,” he said.

Other area wildlife also suffered during the storm, according to the National Trust for Scotland.

“Unfortunately it appears we have lost the majority of our seal pups to this storm,” it posted on Facebook, according to the BBC. “This is a risk grey seals take with their breeding strategy, pupping at this time of year when storms are most frequent…But for this kind of phenomenal storm to hit at the peak of pupping is exceptional.”

Malnourished Seal Pup Put To Sleep After Being Hit With Boat Propeller - Newsweek

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

A malnourished seal pup injured by a boat propeller has been put to sleep.

The British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR)—a U.K.-based charity dedicated to rescuing marine wildlife—said in a Facebook post on Saturday it had found the injured pup in Mylor, southwestern England, earlier this month.

The charity said in the post that the grey seal pup's injuries were "consistent with a boat propeller strike."

The propeller had "luckily" not penetrated her chest cavity, even though the injuries initially seemed severe, the charity said.

However, the unfortunate pup was also malnourished, weighing just 10.3 kilograms (around 23 pounds)—several pounds less than what grey seal pups usually weigh at birth.

Charity veterinarians took the pup to the British Divers Marine Life Rescue seal hospital. But shorty after admission her condition worsened and she didn't respond to treatment. Eventually, the decision was taken to euthanize the pup to "relieve her from further suffering."

"Unfortunately not every rescue has a happy ending, but at least we were able to free her from her trauma and pain," the Facebook post said.

The charity urged people to take care when traveling by boat in ecosystems where seals and other marine wildlife live.

"We wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone to always stay vigilant when operating watercraft, and remember that you are in the habitat of many wild species," the charity said. "It is their home, so let's help to protect them."

The seal hospital is also currently treating two other pups, dubbed "Rock pipit" and "Tern," according to an Instagram post from the charity.

The former was rescued on November 21 from Portheras Cove on the southwestern tip of England.

"She was very lucky indeed to be rescued, as she was found entangled in monofilament fishing net," the charity said.

"Entanglement can be extremely serious for growing seal pups, as the material does not give way as they grow. This can lead to devastating wounds developing and other health conditions associated with their impeded ability to swim and catch food."

"She was well wrapped up in the fishing line and we dread to think what might have become of her if BDMLR hadn't managed to rescue her. Thankfully the netting was tight but hadn't yet resulted in any serious injuries and she is now undergoing rehab primarily due to being underweight. She is doing very well and enjoying her fish!"

Tern, meanwhile, was rescued from nearby Holywell Bay on November 22. When she was found, the pup was underweight and "very poorly" with a "nasty" respiratory infection that made it hard for her to breathe.

The seal now seems to be responding well to treatment and her breathing seems to be improving, the charity said.

German public sector workers seal 2.8% pay hike - Reuters

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

BERLIN, Nov 29 (Reuters) - German labour unions on Monday secured a 2.8% wage increase for over a million public sector workers at the federal state level, a deal analysts said would not kick off a dangerous wage price spiral in Europe's largest economy.

Reached by the Verdi union and employers after marathon talks stretching over the weekend into Monday, the deal includes a tax-free one-off "pandemic bonus" of 1,300 euros ($1,467.18), unions said. Apprentices and students would get 650 euros.

"That's quite a respectable result," Verdi union chief Frank Werneke said. "It brings tangible income improvements for a number of healthcare workers."

Register now for FREE unlimited access to reuters.com

The deal, which runs for 24 months, fell short of the unions' initial demand for a pay rise of 5% for 12 months.

The wage pact for 1.1 million employees is likely to be extended to include 1.2 million civil servants working for local governments and authorities in Germany's 16 states.

Berenberg Bank economist Holger Schmieding said the agreement was a good sign for public sector workers, especially the ones employed in health care.

"But the 2.8% wage increase, starting from December, does not go beyond what is financially possible and economically sensible," he said. "This deal will not start a wage price spiral."

The accord fits into the long-term picture where increasing wage pressure and labour shortages may kindle slightly higher inflation than what Germany experienced over the past two decades.

"In the long run we see around 2% inflation in Germany. The wage deal fits this outlook. It's not too much, not too little. Hopefully, this deal will set an example for other sectors," Schmieding said.

Sebastian Dullien, a wage expert at the German macroeconomic policy institute IMK, said there were also no signs of excessive wage settlements in other European countries.

"As long as actual inflation falls noticeably again in 2022 as predicted, the European Central Bank does not need to worry about inflationary cost pressure from the wage side," he said.

Nearly a year later, panel rethinking Massachusetts’ state seal is behind schedule and still shorthanded - The Boston Globe

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

Since its creation 46 weeks ago, a state commission tasked with recommending changes to Massachusetts’ controversial state seal has met twice. It remains short one appointee, and a state legislator has argued it needs a staff and a budget, neither of which exists. A deadline to submit a report came and went nearly two months ago.

The product of decades of advocacy, the Special Commission Relative to the Seal and Motto of the Commonwealth has been bogged down by Beacon Hill’s familiar morass of bureaucratic hurdles, all while its members wrestle with lingering questions over its mission.

The circumstances have complicated not just when the panel will produce a new vision for Massachusetts’ official symbol but exactly what it will deliver.

Established by the Legislature on Jan. 6 — and approved by Governor Charlie Baker days later — the commission’s focus is Massachusetts’ 19th-century seal, which depicts a colonist’s arm holding a sword above the image of an Algonquian warrior. It’s draped by a Latin motto that roughly translates to: “By the sword we seek peace, but peace only under liberty.”

The current iteration of the imagery was established by the Legislature in 1885, but has long been criticized by Native Americans and others as a racist depiction of oppression and a memorialization of the “slaughter and attempted genocide” of indigenous people.

When lawmakers adopted language creating the commission during the waning hours of their last two-year session, they realized a proposal former state Representative Byron Rushing had first pushed in the 1980s.

“Our nation’s history has been pretty one-sided for a pretty long time. That’s the whole point of why we’re here. We have been overlooked for over 400 years,” Brian Weeden, chairman of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, told his fellow commission members during a meeting Nov. 18.

It has left the commission’s members with a high-profile task: to study features of the 136-year-old seal that may be “unwittingly harmful” and make recommendations for a new or revised design.

The panel’s goal is to ensure the motto and seal — emblazoned across everything from the state flag to countless reams of state government stationery — “faithfully reflect and embody the historic and contemporary commitments of the commonwealth to peace, justice, liberty and equality,” according to the language.

“That’s a mouthful. That’s a lot to do,” said Melissa (Harding) Ferretti, chairwoman and president of the Herring Pond Wampanoag Tribe and a commission member. “I don’t think we’re totally clear ourselves what we’ll see in the end. We don’t want to erase our vision from the seal or the flag, and further erase us from that picture. At the same time, it would be wonderful to see something more respectful.”

The shorthanded commission has yet to dig into its charge in earnest. Despite a March deadline to make selections for the commission, Baker didn’t submit the last of his five choices until late August. State Senator Bruce E. Tarr, the chamber’s minority leader, has yet to name his only appointee to what’s supposed to be a 19-person panel. (A spokesman for the Gloucester Republican said he hopes to have his pick “wrapped up very soon.”)

There have been other logistical challenges, spurred in part by the lingering COVID-19 pandemic. The commission’s meeting on Nov. 18 was its first since mid-July, the only other time it’s convened. And while members voted to establish co-chairpersons — including one from a tribal community — the commission has yet to select who they’ll be.

In the interim, the panel missed an Oct. 1 deadline to produce its recommendations. The state Senate passed language resetting it for July 31, but lawmakers tucked the change into a sweeping $3.8 billion spending package that remains tied up in closed-door negotiations.

That means getting a new date has, too, been delayed.

State Representative Nika C. Elugardo, a Jamaica Plain Democrat who co-sponsored a bill to create the commission, said she believes a “strong end result” is still more important than the commission’s speed, though she acknowledged slow progress “can be frustrating and should be frustrating.”

“If it is a tortoise and hare situation, the tortoise wins the race,” said Elugardo, who doesn’t sit on the panel but has tracked its progress. “What we don’t want is a mule that comes to a dead stop.”

Setbacks have been common, if not the rule, for legislatively created commissions. A panel created to weigh expanding the public records law, for example, disbanded at the end of 2018 after two years — and one extension — without an agreement. A separate commission created under last year’s police accountability law to study Massachusetts’ civil service statute didn’t hold its first meeting on time.

“I’ve never sat on a commission that’s met a deadline,” said state Representative David T. Vieira, a Falmouth Republican and a state seal commission member.

Still, he questioned whether an extension to July 31 even will provide enough time. “If it’s going to be done right, we need to engage the public,” Vieira said. “I also don’t think it’s something that can be done in a handful of months.”

Commission members, all volunteers, also are grappling with what their actual charge involves: to recommend elements for a new seal and motto, or to design a new version for lawmakers and the governor to consider. Some doubt the latter is possible.

“We don’t have the expertise to do that,” Leonid Kondratiuk, director of historical services and militia affairs for the Massachusetts National Guard and a gubernatorial appointee, said at the Nov. 18 meeting.

State Representative Antonio F. D. Cabral, a New Bedford Democrat, has informally convened the commission’s first two meetings as the House chairman of the Committee on State Administration and Regulatory Oversight. But he said it’s unfair to expect the committee staff to also do “all the legwork” the commission would need.

“If we’re going to do this in a very professional way . . . then it’s going to require staff support. It’s going to require, probably, some kind of budget to accommodate what needs to be done,” Cabral said at the meeting, suggesting Baker’s appointees could appeal directly to him.

A spokeswoman for Baker’s office declined to comment.

Cabral, who is also a commission member, said in a statement that his committee would continue to offer support and resources to help the panel. “The task of examining the state seal and motto might not be easy — and might require facing some unpleasant truths of our history and, at times, that may be uncomfortable,” he said. “But I feel this conversation is important.”

The Great Resignation: what is it and how can employers avoid it - Consultancy.com.au

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

The last several months have seen a sharp spike in resignations in Australia and around the world. It’s being widely called ‘The Great Resignation’. Shirli Kirschner, co-founder of HR software company Elker, explains why The Great Resignation is happening, and what employers can do to stop it from impacting their business.

A survey of 25 countries by HR technology company The Adecco Group found Australian workers to be the most burnt out in the world, with around 50% having had to take leave for their mental health. Employers are facing an uphill battle to retain their people because of these figures. Concurrently, resignation rates are highest among mid-career employees.

A survey conducted by the Harvard Business Review found employees between 30 and 45 years old have had the greatest increase in resignation rates, with an average increase of more than 20% between 2020 and 2021.

% Who say they have suffered from working too hard / burnout during the last 12 months

Research by PwC and Deloitte revealed ‘restlessness’ and a demand for flexible working arrangements causing employees to seek out new positions, and projecting 40% of workers planning to change jobs in the next 12 months.

The shift to remote working is also a factor; employers are feeling that hiring people with little experience is riskier than usual since new employees don’t benefit from in-person training and guidance. Harvard Business Review also reported the possibility of many employees delaying transitioning out of their roles due to the uncertainty caused by the pandemic.

It’s understandable that many may have reached their breaking point after long periods of high workloads, amid a general sense of uncertainty. The Harvard Business Review survey also found resignations highest in the tech and healthcare industries.

% Who worked 40 hours or more per week in the last 12 months vs. need to spend 40 hours or more to get the job done

Resignations in tech increased by 4.5%; and 3.6% more healthcare employees quit their jobs than in the previous year. These fields had experienced extreme increases in pandemic-driven demand, subsequently leading to increases in workloads and burnout.

Why are people leaving?

It’s important that we determine why people are leaving, and what can be done to prevent it. What could be driving higher resignation rates? Is it salary? Too much time between promotions? The size of pay increases? Training opportunities? Knowing what the problems are can help you stem the tide. But getting the information out – information that could be hard for an employee to voice, and perhaps even harder for an employer to hear – can prove a challenge.

Staff frequently choose to leave based on how they’ve been treated over the past few challenging years. Those who stayed put were at companies where support, understanding and open communication were in place. Many companies which didn’t do this and bled staff were the ones that doubled down on bad staffing decisions including the likes of widespread layoffs.

Men and women are equally re-assessing options in their working lives

Staff were made ill-at-ease by such choices, which left them feeling worse about their workplace and were, therefore, less likely to stick around.

Employees reasonably expect their employers to act on their concerns, or at least have a means by which they can have their concerns heard. Companies which fail to do that are doomed to suffer high attrition rates among their staff. It’s a short road from a once-prosperous organisation to be one known for its toxic workplace culture.

Knowing what the problems are in your organisation can help you prevent your company from contributing to these ‘Great Resignation’ statistics. Through identifying areas that the business could use improvement, eradicating certain problems and building a better workplace culture will do wonders for your business and create a more amiable, professional and pleasant workplace culture.

% Who believe these factors will be important to their working life after the pandemic

By identifying the root causes that lead to staff turnover, you can address the specific issues that your workplace might be struggling with.

Volumes of staff turnover cost businesses and companies greatly, which also leads to lost productivity. Onboarding new staff to the point of being fully effective will take from six to nine months, so it stands to reason that the companies that lose substantial figures in their workforce will struggle in the future.

Companies that don’t invest in their people, listen to them and have the plans and processes in place to take action when they raise their concerns will lose their most valuable resource, and are guaranteed to fall behind.

SEAL Team Season 5 Episode 9 Review: Close to Home - TV Fanatic

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

The lives of the Bravo members and their families are more complicated than ever.

SEAL Team Season 5 Episode 9 was another standout installment, delivering drama, high-stakes, and shocking cliffhangers.

We'll start with Jason because he was put through a lot during "Close to Home."

Learning his face was out there was one thing, but the revelation that his personal details could also be doing the rounds was downright harrowing.

If you watch SEAL Team online, you know he's been going through it, but this development almost tipped him over the edge.

Rounding up his family was understandably tough, more so when you consider the strained relationship with his father.

If his father wanted to give him some perspective by what he said about Alana asking for help when he was deployed, well, he's done the opposite.

Jason felt terrible when Alana died because he knew he wasn't the best husband, and now he's filled with even more guilt than before.

Mandy: You know, it's tragic really.
Jason: What's that?
Mandy: Even a tier 1 legend can't escape taking work home with him.
Jason: Well, I'm not home.
Mandy: Okay, um, taking work to his secret Delaware den of inequity, clicking away most of the night.
Jason: Well, I'll put the work away, okay?
Mandy: I'm just kidding. I totally get it if there's fallout to deal with.
Jason: Fallout, what do you mean by that?
Mandy: Last op put Bravo in the hospital. I'm sure Command wants a paper trail after a near-disaster like that.
Jason: Enemy got lucky with an RPG, all right? Everyone's fine.
Mandy: Clearly.

The fundamental issue with Jason has always been that he keeps his emotions close to his chest.

Sometimes, talking through things with your loved ones can help you, but Jason struggles to communicate his emotions.

After reading the symptoms, he knows he very likely has a TBI, and I have to commend the show for continually shedding light on this.

My concern for Jason now is that he pushes everyone out of his life before opening up to them.

Mandy was livid that he left her in the hotel room, but she also understood that Command comes first.

There was a certain part of her that wanted Jason to be open and honest with her. She would have changed her flight and helped him through it, but he continued to suffer in silence.

David Boreanaz is killing it every week with his portrayal of Jason, and the writers are genuinely coming up with timely and relevant storylines for all of the characters.

The only good thing about Jason having to go into hiding was that he couldn't take part in the case of the week, and quite frankly, there's no telling how badly it would have gone had he been there.

Jason: Look, last night by body really wasn't cooperating with me.
Mandy: Oh my god. I'd say it cooperated by any reasonable human standard.
Jason: You just called me the H word. You did not call me the H word.
Mandy: Doesn't have to be a marathon every time. Maybe we're due for a change of locale?
Jason: I thought you liked this spot.
Mandy: I do. Maybe next time, we go your way.
Jason: Yeah, maybe. Tell ya what, instead of a marathon, how about a 10k?

Jason is not a bad man, but his struggle to get help or set boundaries hurts his team members. Poor Trent has had to take some time away following the events of SEAL Team Season 5 Episode 8.

At some point, Jason will be filled in about everything that's going on, and it will be difficult to watch his struggle hit dizzying new heights when he understands the true extent of what happened.

The last-minute revelation that Stella's waters had broken was harrowing. She and Clay have been planning this life out ever since learning she was pregnant, and it's going to hit them hard if anything happens to the baby.

Clay made a sweeping statement about taking leave from the Bravo team when the baby arrived. That allowed me to believe the pregnancy would complete without any hitches to show his dilemma when the time comes to take that leave.

You don't understand what this job does to you, the toll it takes on your body, your brain.

Jason

The writers are throwing it out of the park with the progression of the storylines and the shocks thrown in for good measure.

While Clay and Stella's storyline was bookended by a potentially life-changing development, Ash got good news about his health.

Time must be moving quickly because it feels like this storyline only just started, but hopefully, the tumor's shrinkage bodes well for his future.

It has been nice to see Ash and Clay playing nice as opposed to fighting at every turn. If the father and son can genuinely repair what was broken, the pain they've endured might be worthwhile.

Sonny not telling Hannah about the hospital was concerning. Hannah has given up her bar and moved to a new city to be with Sonny, and he's keeping things from her.

Maybe he didn't want to scare her away, but communication is the most vital part of being in a relationship.

If one person in the relationship is hiding something, it begs the question about what else they might be hiding.

The show desperately wants us to ship Sonny and Davis, and the scene at the bar reiterated as much.

Mandy: What's wrong?
Jason: I just got a lot on my plate.

Hopefully, they will make a decision for good soon because the back and forth is killing me. Hannah doesn't deserve to be put through this.

The mission was pulse-pounding. Seriously, when we learned Bravo team would be blind in the mission as an airstrike was sent to them, it made me question who wouldn't make it out alive.

The gunfight was exciting, but it sucked the show cut away from the airstrike to show everyone on the plane.

Some of these finer details need to be shown to really drive home the fact that these people's lives are on the line daily.

"Close to Home" was one of the best episodes of SEAL Team. It had something for everyone.

What did you think of Jason's journey throughout this installment?

Do you think he's reaching a breaking point?

What do you think will happen with Stella?

Do you think Sonny is fooling himself that he's in love with Hannah?

SEAL Team continues Sundays on Paramount+.

Cuteness Overload: Adorable Seal Pups Meet for the First Time - Greek Reporter

Prepare for cuteness overload at the sight of two baby seal pups meeting for the first time at The Hellenic Society for the Study and Protection of the Monk seal’s (MOm) rehabilitation center this past Wednesday.

On Monday, November 22nd, MOm saved a newborn female seal pup after she was found in the shores of Northern Evia.

MOm was informed of the seal pup on the shores of Chalkidiki, and in coordination with the Port Authority of Ormos Panagias, as well as local citizens transferred the pup to MOm’s rehabilitation center in Spata, Attica.

After the young seal pup, who was baptized “Ifigenia,” gained strength, she was introduced to an equally young, and cute, resident of the rehab center, “Evi”.

Baby Seal Pups Meet for the First Time

Ifigenia and Evi’s first interaction provides the kind of joy we need given the current health crisis: cuteness overload, for sure.

The beaches of Chalkidiki are a known sunbathing locale for young and old seal pups. Often offering humans extra cute summer experiences.

It is not strange then that Evi, who was found on November 6th and taken to the rehab center, was also discovered at a beach in Chalkidiki.

When Evi was first identified, MOm and the local community waited in hopes that Evi’s mother would come back to get her. Bad weather probably limited mobility and visibility. After it was determined that her mother was not returning, and given Evi’s deteriorating health, she was taken to the rehab center.

While Ifigenia’s health condition was not disclosed, baby Evi suffered from advanced bronchopneumonia; both were in critical condition at the time of their respective arrivals at MOm’s clinic.

Today, the two newborns are getting stronger, and their appetites are steadily increasing, moving faster towards full rehabilitation.

The two seal pups’ first meet begins with a slow attempt at identifying the being across from them and speeds up in tempo as they gain familiarity.

Ifigenia and Evi are just two examples of MOm’s successful program on the island of Alonissos. In fact, the success is so great that the Monk seal population has increased to the point where the species is no longer on the endangered species list.

MOm’s activities span from monitoring the distribution of the Mediterranean monk seals in Greece, to locating and mapping pupping areas, all the way to studying how human activities affect the monk seals.

Much of the non-profit organization’s activities are centered around the island of Alonissos, which has a famed National Marine Park.

Recently, ABTA Magazine, identified Alonissos as one of the top global destinations for ecotourism, citing the islands National Marine Park as one of the contributing factors in its decision.

It may take a while before we are able to visit Alonissos and see seal pups with our own two eyes. So, until then, Evi and Ifigenia’s  video cuteness will continue to lift our spirits and give us insight into their world.

A Bodybuilder Got Crushed by David Goggins' 'Impossible' Navy SEAL Workout - menshealth.com

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

Author and motivational speaker David Goggins is famous for his commitment in the gym, and he frequently shares insights into just how intensely he trains on social media. He has also inadvertently coined a couple of fitness challenges which have proven popular on YouTube, including the exhausting workout routine he used to lose 100 pounds in a 90-day period back during his Navy SEAL training.

In a new video, Australian bodybuilder and vlogger Zac Perna spends a day recreating this routine, as detailed in Goggins' book Can't Hurt Me, starting with a 4:30 a.m. wakeup call. Perna eats a banana, which is to be his body's only fuel for the morning's first bouts of activity, then sets off for an hour-long bike ride at 5:30 a.m. "It's not too different for me, because I usually do cardio, but not for an hour," he says. "I'm already cooked."

This is followed by a swim in the ocean, although the bracing wind and freezing cold temperatures force him to change tactics and head for a heated indoor pool instead. "In terms of the actual cardio, my lats felt like they were about to tear off," says Perna. "My shoulders were pumped, and I couldn't breathe. So all in all, that was very, very difficult."

Next up, Perna hits the gym for a high-volume circuit workout consisting of bench press, incline press and lots of exercises that work the legs. Goggins performs each exercise for sets of 100 reps as a minimum: Perna does them in supersets to get through the volume more quickly. "It's going to be a lot of pain, it's going to be a lot of sweat," he says.

After another two-hour bike ride, it's finally time for Perna to stop for dinner: grilled chicken breast with a small serving of rice (still more than the "thimble" that Goggins recalls eating) and leafy greens. "I think if I did this diet every single day, I would literally be dead," he says, calculating that Goggins was maintaining a deficit of more than 4,000 calories each day.

"That's crazy," he concludes. "I don't think any human other than David could do this and survive."

1 in 3 U.S. Adults Has Medical Debt. Here's How to Avoid It - Motley Fool

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

It's easy to assume that medical debt is a problem for the uninsured. But a new Healthcare.com survey reveals that roughly 1 in 3 Americans aged 18 and over has some amount of medical debt. Many Americans are being driven into debt due to medical bills despite having insurance.

Even with coverage in place, high deductibles and hefty coinsurance and copays can still leave patients on the hook with costs their regular paychecks can't cover. If you're worried about landing in medical debt, the good news is that there are steps you can take to avoid it. Here are a few to get working on as soon as you can.

1. Pad your savings

The more money you have available in your savings account for surprise expenses, the less likely you'll be to land in any sort of debt -- medical debt included. If you're not sure how much to save for medical bills, start by socking away enough money to cover your annual deductible, which is the amount of money you need to spend each year before your insurance kicks in and starts covering your healthcare expenses.

It's also a good idea to try to set aside several hundred dollars on top of your annual deductible so you can handle expenses like copays as they arise. If you typically see the doctor five times a year and pay a $40 copay each time, you can sock away an extra $200 for those anticipated visits.

2. Have a dedicated account earmarked for medical expenses

While you could pump money into a regular savings account to cover medical costs, you may want to take advantage of one of two special healthcare savings accounts that offer tax benefits. The first is a flexible spending account (FSA), which lets you allocate a sum of money to spend on healthcare within a limited time frame (usually one year, though some of these plans have a grace period that gives you a little more time).

The second is a health savings account (HSA), which lets you set aside money for healthcare expenses that you can use at any point in your life. HSAs also allow you to invest the money you don't need immediately so it grows into a larger sum.

Both FSA and HSA contributions go in on a tax-free basis. This means that if you put $1,000 into either account, the IRS won't tax you on $1,000 of your earnings.

You can save in either an FSA or HSA, but you can't have both at the same time. Also, only certain health insurance plans render you eligible for an HSA, so you'll need to see if that's even on the table. If it isn't, an FSA is a good fallback option.

3. Always check your medical bills before paying them

Sometimes, all it takes is a simple billing error to leave you on the hook with a much higher tab for medical care than you should have to pay. In fact, in the aforementioned survey, 8% of people with medical debt who are insured say they landed in that boat due to having been billed incorrectly.

That's why you must always check every medical bill you receive thoroughly before paying it. If something looks off, ask questions. Call your provider as well as your insurance company and ask why you're being charged the amount listed. It's especially important to dig deeper if you're being billed for something your insurer normally covers or has covered in the past.

Medical debt can be extremely stressful and upsetting. Follow these tips in an effort to steer clear of medical debt to the greatest degree possible.

Algerians vote in local polls to seal post-Bouteflika ‘change’ - Aljazeera.com

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

Election is the third vote in Algeria under President Abdelmadjid Tebboune who promised to reform state institutions inherited from Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

Algerians voted in local elections seen as key in President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s push to turn the page on the two-decade rule of late president Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

But despite official campaigns urging Algerians to “make their mark”, the vote for municipal and provincial councils on Saturday sparked little public interest.

The election is the third vote in Algeria under Tebboune, who has promised to reform state institutions inherited from Bouteflika, a strongman who ruled the country for two decades.

Observers predicted a low turnout as with the poorly attended elections since Bouteflika was driven from power by the Hirak pro-democracy protest movement in April 2019.

The North African country’s rulers are trying to “impose their will despite the embarrassing results of previous elections”, said analyst Mohamed Hennad.

Polling stations opened at 8am (07:00 GMT) and close at 7pm. More than 23 million people are eligible to vote with 15,230 candidates standing and results expected on Sunday.

Campaigning had been muted despite calls by authorities on Algerians to take part if they “want change” and “institution-building”.

Tebboune was elected in a contentious, widely boycotted 2019 ballot months after Bouteflika stepped down under pressure from the army and Hirak rallies.

He pledged to break with local and regional elections marred by widespread claims of fraud in the era of Bouteflika, who died in September at the age of 84.

In a televised interview on Friday, Tebboune, a former prime minister under Bouteflika, called on Algerians to participate actively in the vote.

“If the people want change, it is time they do something about it themselves by voting,” he said.

‘Huge challenges’

Algeria’s local assemblies elect two-thirds of members of the national parliament’s upper house, with the president appointing the remainder.

Redouane Boudjemaa, a journalism professor at the University of Algiers, said the vote was simply “an attempt to clean up the façade of local councils by changing their members to benefit the ruling class”.

“Politics at the moment is limited to slogans proclaiming that the country has entered a new era, while all indicators point to the contrary.”

Tebboune’s rule has seen a crackdown on journalists and Hirak activists, even as he has packaged important policy moves as responses to the calls by the protest movement for reform.

He has also faced a diplomatic crisis with Algeria’s colonial ruler France and is embroiled in a diplomatic crisis with neighbouring Morocco, with which Algiers severed diplomatic ties in August over the disputed territory of Western Sahara.

But in his televised remarks on Friday, Tebboune said “these relations must return to normal provided the other party [France] conceives them on an equal basis, without provocation.”

Hennad said the elite in power since Algeria’s independence from France in 1962 were using slogans around change to impose their agenda, without truly engaging other political forces.

Tebboune pushed through an amended constitution in November 2020, approved by less than 24 percent of the electorate, and oversaw a parliamentary election that saw just 23 percent of voters take part.

Despite a declared boycott by the opposition Rally for Culture and Democracy (RCD), party activists are standing on independent lists, setting up a showdown with the rival Front of Socialist Forces (FFS) in the Kabylie region that often sees significant abstentions.

Electoral board head Mohamed Charfi has stressed the body’s efforts to boost turnout.

But Boudjemaa said the main issue at stake was the “huge economic and social challenges of the coming year”, warning Algerians’ purchasing power could “collapse”.

“Several indicators show that the pouvoir [ruling elite] has neither the vision nor the strategy to respond to the crisis,” he said.

Netflix To Release Animated Feature ‘Seal Team’ in December 2021 - What's on Netflix

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com
netflix seal team december 2021

Seal Team – Picture: Triggerfish Animation

Among the surprise announcements for the December Netflix lineup was the inclusion of the South African-produced animated movie Seal Team which will be arriving globally on December 31st, 2021. Other Netflix regions will also likely receive Seal Team although it will vary region-to-region.

The movie, directed by Greig Cameron and co-directed by Kane Croudace sees a group of seals team up to against the gang of sharks who have been terrorizing their neighborhood. Collectively they form a so-called Seal Team but the reality is they’re not prepared for the mission they’re about to embark on. Chaos ensues.

If you’re looking for two films for comparison, Seal Team seems to be a cross between Disney’s pigeon movie Valiant and Dreamwork’s Shark Tale.

Seal Team comes from Trigger Fish Animation studios who are based “on a farm” in Cape Town, South Africa. Their previous movies include Khumba and Adventures in Zambezia.

The movie uses the same animation techniques as The Lego Movie and The Peanuts Movie that notably gives the movie a stop-motion aesthetic despite being made entirely digitally.

Who is in the voice cast for Seal Team?

Plenty of recognizable voices are present throughout the movie. Among those includes:

  • Patrick Warburton (The Emperor’s New Groove) as Geraldo
  • J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man) as Claggart
  • Kristen Schaal (Gravity Falls) as Beth
  • Dolph Lundgren (Rocky IV) as Dolph
  • Sharlto Copley (District 9) as Switch
  • Matthew Rhys (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood) as Grimes
  • Richard Steven Horvitz (Invader ZIM) as Snap
  • John Kani (The Lion King) as Brick

More Coming to Netflix from Triggerfish Animation

Seal Team won’t be the only project coming soon from Triggerfish Animation as they are currently hard at work alongside Cake Entertainment on the new Shondaland animated series, Mama K’s Team 4.

The new series comes from Malenga Mulendema and is about four teenage girls living in a futuristic version of Lusaka, Zambia, who are recruited by a retired secret agent to save the world.

Draghi, Macron Seal New European Power Axis With Bilateral Deal - Bloomberg

ragamnyakabar.blogspot.com

French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi signed a bilateral cooperation treaty on Friday in the latest sign of a growing alliance between two of Europe’s most dynamic leaders.

The two shook hands and signed the document at Rome’s Quirinal palace, which will lend its name to the new treaty, as Italian and French jets passed overhead, weaving lines of smoke in the colors of the two nations’ flags.
